Karibu
“Karibu” in Kiswahili means “welcome”. This is the first painting made in a long time that I didn’t paint. A subject that is part of me, one hand is mine, the other that of a shaman from a village on the Kenyan coast. This handshake has a real meaning between two different cultures, where, in addition to the exchange of a handshake, it has meant an exchange of mutual knowledge, respect, and passion.
In addition to the handshake, there is much more. The interest in learning about a different culture to integrate and accept a life made of emotions, satisfaction, and many compromises. Things that help you to live with serenity, in a country that is not and it will never be yours but where you will always be a guest.
Technique: acrylic on canvas.
Canvas: 40cm x 60cm, cotton 100%.
